Backwash when pressure is up about 20 to 25% from your clean baseline or when flow noticeably drops. Do not backwash every week by habit.
How Long to Backwash
Backwash until the sight glass runs clear (if you have one) and then rinse to settle the bed. The goal is restoring flow without blowing out media.
- Backwash: typically 2 to 3 minutes
- Rinse: typically 20 to 30 seconds
